Horticulturalist/Outside Customer Service

At Nicholas Alexander Home & Garden, we are really excited and starting to think about our 2021 Spring season! Are you looking for a position in a fun, fast-paced environment as a Horticulturalist / Outside Customer Service at Vernon's NEW Garden Centre of choice?

Located in Vernon, BC, we are a destination garden centre selling beautiful plants, gardening merchandise, ladies fashion and so much more! If you have knowledge in Trees, Evergreens, Fruit Trees, Shrubs, Perennials, Vines and Grasses and enjoy a creative and fast paced sales environment, then this job is for you.

This position is 40 hours a week with requirements to put in additional hours during our busy spring and Christmas seasons.You must be able to work weekends.

Reporting to the Manager/Owner, the Horticulturalist / Outside Customer Service responsibilities include:

• Provide assistance and knowledge to customers of outdoor plants for various situations (sunny, windy, shade, light levels, etc.)
• Provide excellent customer service and knowledge on all nursery stock
• Assist in creating compelling displays and point-of-purchase material
• Willing to ‘get their hands dirty’ to maintain the retail nursery area
• Keep the retail area stocked with plants for sale
• Ensure the Nursery area is clean, tidy and well-stocked
• Ensure plants are healthy and well cared for
• Keep current in gardening trends
• Assist in product ordering when necessary

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years working with trees, shrubs, fruit plants, roses, grasses and perennials and more
• Knowledge of plants including annuals, tropicals is not required but an asset
• Retail background an asset
• Ability to work quickly in support of multiple initiatives
• A great team player
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and be able to carry repeatedly through the length of the garden centre.

Compensation:

• Compensation will be based on experience.
