VERNON - The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the next five recipients to be recognized under the KPMG Top 20 under 40 Vernon. The five were selected at random and include two doctors, a couple of business owners, and the current president of the local chapter of JCI (Junior Chamber International).

The five recipients announced today are:

  • Mark Zaino – VP Finance & Partner, Westwood Electric
  • Sue Solymosi - Mortgage Broker & Licensed Assistant, White House Mortgages
  • Dr. Laura McPherson, B.Sc., D.C. - Chiropractor & Co-­owner, Bluebird Sport & Spine
  • Dr. Karl Langer, MD FRCS - General Surgeon, Vernon Jubilee  Hospital
  • Mellissa Dobernigg - Business Owner, The BX Press Cidery & Orchard

 “These young professionals were selected from close to eighty nominations and a number of them were nominated more than once,” says Dan Rogers, Chamber general manager.  “These recipients are actively influencing the health and well being of the area and we are pleased to work with our partners in recognizing their contributions.”

The top 20 under 40 will be officially recognized at a community celebration event to be held on Thursday, October 22 at Okanagan College during Small Business Week in BC.

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce (GVCC) has teamed up with KPMG LLP to bring the KPMG Top 20 Under 40 to Vernon.  The initiative was officially launched today as the Vernon Chamber began the search for young professionals under the age of 40 years of age who are making their mark through business success and community involvement.


“Vernon is fortunate to have many young, skilled, and knowledgeable professionals who are becoming our next generation of leaders and change-makers,” says David Adams, managing partner with KPMG’s office in Vernon. “KPMG is proud to sponsor the Greater Vernon Top 20 Under 40, and to recognize individuals who are making a positive impact in Vernon.”


Starting September 22, 2015 recipients will be announced over the course of four weeks and will be featured on the KPMG Top 20 Under 40 website. The recipients will also be honoured at a special recognition event on Thursday, October 22, 2015 during Small Business Week.


“This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the support and encouragement of KPMG and for that we are grateful,” says Jaron Chasca, GVCC president. “We believe that by recognizing some of the talented young entrepreneurs that it will encourage other young professionals to invest and strengthen in our community.”


If you know a resident of the Greater Vernon area who is excelling in their career, passionate about the community, helping to raise the profile of the Greater Vernon area, and will be under the age of 40 as of December 31, 2015, then they are a perfect candidate for the KPMG Top 20 Under 40.

Director Bio - Caroline Radics


caroline-7077eCaroline, a resident of Vernon since 1998,  was hired by Okanagan University College one month after moving to the area, to work at their job search center, called CTAC. Her position was mainly acting as a Job Search Facilitator teaching people in career transition job search skills and computer skills. She has also assisted in the development and operation of 2 companies one in the Okanagan, and has an excellent understanding of the needs of businesses in Vernon. Since the closing of CTAC, she made a career change to Financial Advising which is a perfect fit for her knowledge and personality. She is finding a need for her services by businesses and families that require good sound advice and support while building and protecting their financial plans.

Caroline supports businesses and solid economic growth in the community and this has been her focus since moving to the area, but even more now it is the foundation of her business and a focus of her every day. She supports the concept of working together as a community to promote a solid economy and is currently active in building a strong network of referral sources.

Currently Vernon Coordinator for Advocis the Financial Planners Organization and a board member of the Vernon Winter Carnival Association.

VERNON, BC,  July 14, 2011— Colin Mayes, Member of Parliament for Okanagan-Shuswap is pleased to announce that the Government of Canada is once again accepting applications from local businesses to help kick start their innovative ideas by moving their products and services from the lab to the marketplace.

Today, the latest call for proposals under the Canadian Innovation Commercialization Program/Kickstart initiative was launched by the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women.

“I am pleased to tell you that the second call for proposals is now available to local businesses. Our Government is putting its support behind local innovations designed right here in the Okanagan-Shuswap,” said Colin Mayes. “The Canadian Innovation Commercialization Program was introduced because it’s an important way to kick start innovative Canadian business ideas by helping them move from late-stage research and development into commercialization.”

This $40-million program was created to help Canadian businesses by testing their innovative products and services within the Government of Canada before taking them to the marketplace. Federal departments will test innovations that fall within four key areas: environment; health; safety and security; and technology.

The second call for proposals is now available on MERX, the Government of Canada’s electronic tendering service. Successful bidders will see their products and services tested within government departments, and will be given valuable feedback from users participating in the program.

Balloon Burst Prizes Needed!


The 2011 Business Excellence Awards are set for Saturday March 5th, at the Vernon Lodge and we would love to have a balloon floating in the room corresponding to a prize especially from you!
