HEADLINE: Greater Vernon Chamber leader in province of BC DATE: June 02, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
British Columbia Chambers supports four Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce Resolutions at 2009 AGM in Prince Rupert.
The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce has once again put Vernon on the map and in the forefront of policy development in the Province of British Columbia. Four Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce (GVCC) resolutions have now been passed at the British Columbia Chamber’s Annual General Meeting, held on May 21-23, 2009 in Prince Rupert. The GVCC is taking a leading role in submitting policies in support of businesses adapting to a new economic climate.
“The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce is to be congratulated for playing a leading role in sending a clear message to the provincial government that the issues of importance to Vernon are of critical importance to all of BC and that our issues require immediate action,” states John Winter, president and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “The resolutions submitted by Vernon will ensure that the provincial and Canadian economy will not only emerge from the current economic crisis quickly but will also emerge well positioned to thrive in the emerging green economy.”
Today’s economic leaders are focused on accountable financial strategies and low carbon plans for a sustainable future. Each of the four resolutions submitted by the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce address these two issues in a capacity which supports business for a changing economy. One example of this is the resolution, “Skills Training for a New Economy”, which states: ”If our leaders are promoting a future economy driven by low carbon growth and new green jobs, commitments could be made under many of the budgetary plans to include training, assistance and support for British Columbians to gain skills in all aspects of green technology. Training programs may need to change quickly to keep up with the new green economy and by addressing this opportunity our provincial government could lead the way for quick economic recovery.”
The three other resolutions passed are: “Economic recovery through developing effective processes for the innovation and technology sectors to reach local and global markets”, “Developing a Skilled Workforce for a globally competitive Value Added Wood Products Industry” and “Economic and Environmental Sustainability for Business”.
